I have attended Jane's classes for many years now, originally with my lurchers but in recent times with my Welsh Terriers. These little rascals are typical terriers and can be quite challenging to train. I struggled at first but with Jane's encouragement, new fresh ideas, a bit of lateral thinking (and sense of humour), I am delighted to say that I have been successful! Now, I am proud of my dogs in public places as both terriers have attained their Gold Good Citizen awards. They enjoy a better quality of life, being reasonably well-mannered and both returning when re-called. Jane gives the same attention and enthusiasm to you whether you have a potential competition star or a naughty disruptive pet. If you put the work in, you may surprise yourself and end up in the pre-beginners ring of a Kennel Club obedience show as I did last summer! We have a lot of fun too, the dogs view training night as their social club. At Christmas, we have had all year to dream up a costume for our fancy-dress party and always come 'dressed to impress'. Oh, and Jane is VERY highly qualified!
We have been attending Jane’s classes over the past ten years, having taken all our dogs ( Border Collie, miniature Poodle, Estrela and Papillon ) through the Good citizen scheme up to gold standard. The classes have been a well balanced mix of the skills and techniques needed to develop the understanding and control of the dog together with a friendly and enjoyable environment where owners and dogs can progress at their own pace. Our youngest Papillon has now achieved his Good Citizen Silver award with Jane and is working for his gold.
I initially went to Jane's classes with no dog. My main passion was to be a dog trainer myself so I thought that I would ask to go alone to Jane's classes to learn. I was so pleased at how welcoming both Jane and the class were to my observing. I became instant friends with everyone. Jane's way of training was great and really inspired me and opened my eyes to the world of dog training. I was in awe of the dogs and what they were able to do. All these different dogs with different personalities and they were all so well behaved. Almost a year went by of me coming along and watching until I finally got my dog, Suki.
A Patterdale Terrier mixed with a Wire Haired Dachshund.
As soon as Suki had her vaccinations and was ready for the world I didn’t hesitate to bring her along to Jane's training.
Nowadays she is the most well behaved dog and has already achieved her Bronze, Silver and Gold Good Citizens awards, her first Bronze was even before she was a year old!
I still go along to learn the ropes of obedience with Janes knowledge and kindness. It also keeps me socialising with the other dog owners and watch them all grow up together.
I am a puppy walker for Guide Dogs and have attended Jane's classes with my last two pups and my pet dog Jessie. I love Jane's classes and wouldn't consider another trainer in this area, this is for a number of reasons; Firstly, the control of the session is fantastic, some other classes will see dogs all off lead together for a free for all under the guise of 'socialisation'. I know bringing pups to Jane's classes will reinforce the idea that the bond I want them to form is with me rather than other dogs, it also means you don't get dragged over to every other dog you pass because your dog has been trained to walk on by when on lead. Secondly, Jane's experience and knowledge speaks for itself and I find her really inspirational. Thirdly, I love how patient Jane is and love watching the input she gives everyone else in the session with a whole array of breeds, sizes and abilities- you can really see her belief that any dog can be a well behaved pet dog that is a joy to work with. I would wholeheartedly recommend Jane Wood Dog Training and am sure you will enjoy the classes as much as I do.
I started training with Jane when my Westie 'Ralph' was 6 months old. Six years on we still attend. I now have a 3 and a half year old Scottie 'Beth' who I also take. Both dogs love going dog training with Jane. Tuesday night's means going to socialise with their friends (canine and human)! Both dogs have acquired their bronze, silver and gold awards. I have learnt a lot at sessions about how dogs think and work, and this has resulted in having two dogs that I take just about everywhere with me, often receiving comments on how well mannered they are. Jane has encouraged me to enter obedience shows, and assists us with training tips and techniques for the event. My biggest achievement was having Ralph selected to take part in an obedience display at Crufts, this was amazing. I feel very privileged to have been training with Jane for this length of time. I have learnt a great deal from a knowledgeable source.
